After Chelsea's defeat on penalties to premiership rivals Man Utd at the weekend in the FA Community Shield the clubs start to the fourth coming campaign has been thrown into turmoil following the depletion of their squad.
This is due to a number of serious injuries received by their most influential players. Such as the club captain John Terry and the last seasons premiership golden boot winner Didier Drogba.
It has also been a difficult pre-season for the premiership giants with rumours amounting to possible exits of Arjen Robben, Micheal Ballack, and England's Frank Lampard.
Robben looks set to join Real Madrid for a transfer fee circa of £20 million, while Ballack could be joining his Chelsea team mate. Lampard is also rumoured to be heading for the sunny climate of Spain with Barcelona looking to be his suitors.
One positive note to come from Stamford bridge was the positive display and goal by new signing Florent Malouda at Wembley on Sunday. With half time fast approaching his strength made it easy to out muscle the ever confident Rio Ferdinand to equalise for the blues, cancelling out Ryan Giggs left footed strike.
